After completing Spitfire V2, I've thought about it over the months on what sort of game I could do from beyond that point.
The past: Hyperspace
Some of you may remember Hyperspace.
Hyperspace was an old sort of space shooter I was working on back in 2013-2014 that I ended up never finishing due to the laptop a lot of the old code was on, dying - causing me to lose motivation to continue the project further.
That, paired with the fact I wasn't sure where that project was going.
The present: Spitfire V2
Spitfire V2 was a remake of a game I made in Highschool, I developed a 2D game engine around it to help make it work... and it came out better than I anticipated.
Now with that out of the way, "what's the next logical step?" I asked myself. Looking back at the way the projectiles in Spitfire V2 were designed, one of the powerups was that the bullets spread out, making it easier to kill many enemies at once.
It reminded me of a game I played during my childhood, called Chicken Invaders. It's like those old arcade games where you just shoot waves upon waves of enemies, then fighting a boss every so often. It was simple, but fun.
The future: New project
So with that in mind, I decided I'll go for the spirit of old wave-based arcade shooters and expand what I've been working on to make a more fun playing experience for at the very least close friends of mine. It'll be an interesting journey, to say the least.
